Women are constantly looking for new gadgets that would make their life better and easier – not only this, but they’re also willing to pay the extra money for whatever that gadget may be. However, they’re also very quick when it comes to abandoning the newly purchased item once they realize reputation and hype preceded it without solid ground – the same goes for the shower radio, which has just been voted the worst home gadget of all time, the Telegraph informs.

People don’t really need a radio in the shower, especially if it comes with such design and functionality flaws, the 3,000 women queried in the survey believe. Also useless are battery-powered candles and the electric nail file, the results have revealed. At the opposite pole is the television set, which continues to be considered the most extraordinary gadget ever invented, followed shortly by the microwave, the vacuum cleaner and the hair dryer.

“The waterproof wireless, which was plagued by tuning issues and the fact the volume needed to be loud enough to drown out the cascading water, was the clear winner. Battery-powered candles came second and the electric nail file was third. The classic 1980s SodasStream drink-maker was fourth and the Teasmaid was fifth. The Sheilas’ Wheels Home Insurance study of 3,000 women also revealed the television as the greatest household gadget ever made. Eight out of 10 women said they couldn’t live without their beloved telly.” the Telegraph says of the recent poll.

“Women love trying out time-saving gadgets that can help them to tackle the daily challenge of juggling careers and family life. But many new gizmos which appear incredibly useful at purchase, just end up collecting dust and taking up cupboard space before too long. Out of sight often means out of mind, but home owners shouldn’t forget about the dust gatherers in their homes when valuing their contents for home insurance. An unused gadget is just as much part of a contents inventory as the most relied upon appliance. You may not use it but you should still include it.” Jacky Brown of Sheilas’ Wheels says of the survey.

Also deemed useless are such household gadgets as the electric carving knife, the digital photo frame, the electric can opener, the electrical facial massager and the mini disc player. On the other hand, the laptop, the TV remote control, the alarm clock, the electric toothbrush, the bathroom scales, the iron and the MP3 player were voted among the greatest inventions of all time.
