Today, Tuesday, November 10, 2009 is officially the day when most British women start their “Christmas diets,” a new survey conducted by British Lion Eggs informs, as cited by the Telegraph. The aim of said diet change is to help women get in proper shape for the Christmas office party, as well as for the New Year’s Eve party.

Six of ten women of those queried in the survey have set November 10 as the start date for the diet that will ultimately make them look splashing in that expensive evening gown they’re likely to buy for the Christmas party. Most of them are even willing to cut out meals altogether just to lose the desired weight, which averages at about ten pounds in most cases, the survey has also learned.

“With the party season fast approaching, six out of ten women will embark on a regime to get their body in shape in time to fit into their glitzy outfit. Researchers have pinpointed today as the serious start of the Christmas Party Diets across the country. The study also found around 58 per cent of women plan to shed some pounds before their office party to make sure they are looking their best.” the Telegraph writes of the poll in question.

Since ten pounds off is no small feat to accomplish – as most women ever trying to drop a few pounds will testify –, the women included in the recent poll are even willing to skip meals to get there, as also noted above. Apparently, the most convenient meal to cut out seems to be breakfast, and this is where women are making a mistake, health experts point out. They don’t say breakfast is the most important meal of the day for nothing, as skipping it could actually lead to more weight gain.

“The Christmas party has become one of the biggest events of the year, and for many, it’s an ideal time to impress a male colleague to be the envy of your female workmates. […] But simply cutting food out won’t work. The best way to lose weight is to eat sensibly and have three balanced meals a day, particularly breakfast. Research shows that eating eggs for breakfast can help to keep you feeling fuller for longer and therefore can help with weight management.” a spokesperson for British Lion Eggs also points out.
