Pfizer could face numerous lawsuits from women who used its defective birth control pills

In the wake of Pfizer's announcement – that the company is retiring a series defective birth control pills – experts are weighing in on the decision, saying that women who experience, or will experience, unwanted pregnancies as a result of using these medications can and should sue the company.

The pharmaceuticals giant announced yesterday, February 1, that it will be recalling 14 lots of Lo/Ovral-28, as well as 14 lots of the generic pills Norgestrel and Ethinyl Estradiol. Women who used these pills should ensure that they are not pregnant as soon as possible.

If they are, they could file a class lawsuit against the company. Law experts say that such an action could have high chances of success. There are many legal precedents for this type of suit, such as for example men who won after botched vasectomies led to unwanted pregnancies, LiveScience reports.

Personally, I am not a big fan of lawsuits, and I think that some people abuse everyone's right to take others in a court of law. However, in an instance such as this, I totally agree with a suit, primarily because such a mistake could have far-reaching implications for the life of thousands, maybe more.
