14 DAY TRIAL // Earlier this month, a Japanese company called Suntory Holdings Ltd. debuted a brand new type of beer. The brew, marketed under the name of Precious, is meant for the ladies, and not because it's light.
According to Suntory Holdings Ltd., the beer is the ultimate wrinkles fighter every woman could ever hope for. That's right, they're claiming that gals who drink Precious will get the smoothest skin that ever was.
The beer is made with collagen
In the product's description, the Japanese company explains that the reason Precious can banish all wrinkles is that it contains 2 grams (roughly 0.07 ) of collagen per can.
For those unaware, collagen is a protein that is naturally occurring in the body and that is included in the makeup of various connective tissues. In fact, it is the main structural protein of such tissues.
Suntory Holdings Ltd. would have women believe that, by drinking their collagen-infused beer, the protein will shoot up straight to their face and make it all smooth and pretty.
“Guys can tell if a girl is taking collagen or not,” says the Japanese company's slogan, as cited by Oddity Central. Oddly enough, it looks like plenty of women in Japan are buying Precious.
Experts rebut the company's claims
Ladies in Japan might believe that drinking collagen-infused beer is the secret to looking young, but experts say that there is no scientific evidence to support Suntory Holdings Ltd.'s claims.
True, collagen is naturally occurring in the body and is the main structural protein of many tissues, but this does not mean that drinking it has any effect on how smooth a person's skin is.
“The advertisement claiming that 'Guys can tell if a girl is taking collagen or not' is totally misleading,” specialist Ariel Ostad with the New York University Medical Center said in a statement.
To cut to the chase, this collagen-infused beer that promises to make the women who drink it young and pretty is a clear case of pseudoscience and most definitely a rip-off.
