It's been 18 years since Chris Walton stopped getting her manicure done and started caring for her nails at home. Also then, she stopped clipping them, which means she is now the official record holder for the world's longest nails.

Yet Walton insists in a new interview with the Daily Mail that her life is “normal.” Despite having nails that would prevent anyone from doing their daily chores, she does everything by herself, she says.

Walton is a singer and a grandmother, so she's pretty busy. She says that her incredibly long nails, now recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records, don't come at the price of a regular life.

“It's just like growing a long beard, or long hair. I didn't grow my nails deliberately – I just stopped getting manicures and started taking care of my nails myself,” she says.

“Instead of clipping them back, I'd fill them in as they grew. I kept living and they kept growing,” Chris explains, adding that she has moments when she completely forgets she has such long nails.

She understands why people assume that she hardly does anything around the house the moment they see her, but that's not the case.

Chris stresses she would have never sacrificed a normal life to a Guinness record.

“Other people think I'm very fragile when they first meet me, but they soon see that I can do everything. In my next life, I'm going to grow my nails and pretend I can't do anything for myself so that people will do it all for me,” she jokes.

“I would never be stupid enough to stop my life so that I could grow my fingernails. I'd rather have the attention for my music,” Chris stresses.

Speaking of music, she's just getting ready to launch a career in the industry. The Mail says she has a single out now called “Live and Let Live,” in which she preaches acceptance, tolerance and unconditional love.
