14 DAY TRIAL // While some women out there would risk their lives to be able to break the record for world’s largest breasts, for 40-year-old Kerisha Mark this was a record she never wanted to attain – and she would have done anything to make things different.
When she turned 40, after a lifetime of pain and embarrassment, she decided to see a plastic surgeon to talk about the possibility of getting a reduction on her huge (and all-natural) 36NNN-cup breasts.
Today, after Dr. Franklin Rose operated on her, she is a new woman and feels like she’s gotten a brand new lease on life.
Gigantomastia can affect women as young as 14
Mark got her 36NNN breasts naturally because she suffered from a condition known as gigantomastia, which leads to an explosive growth of breast tissue. She’s always had curves, since she was a teen, but things had gotten increasingly difficult for her with age.
However, besides the back and neck pain, the headaches, and the fact that she couldn’t get a decent top because of her ample cleavage, what bothered Kerisha the most was the constant attention she was getting from all kinds of people, people she didn’t even have contact with, whom she passed walking down the street.
“Women and men want to touch them to see if they are real. It's real intimidating,” she tells ABC 13, in an interview after the reduction surgery, which you will find embedded below.
To the day of the surgery, Kerisha never wore a bathing suit and she couldn’t even do mundane things many of us go through without as much as thinking about them, like climbing stairs or breaking into a sprint if we realize we’re running late.
Her condition isn’t rare, but Dr. Rose, who operated on her, says her breasts were the largest he’s ever worked on in his 30-year career.
The health risks of carrying all that weight
Kerisha recalls the first time she went to camp when she was a teen: she started jumping up and down, and her bra snapped. Her problems got even worse with time, to the point where she considered she would be giving herself a present if she got the surgery around her 40th birthday.
Dr. Rose explains that it’s a good thing she didn’t wait for much longer, because her body would have eventually caved under the weight of the breasts. In 30 years or less, she would have probably been hunchbacked because of them, in addition to her current problems getting much worse.
So it was a good time she came to see him when she did.
Kerisha admits that she “cried” the first day she was at home after being discharged from the hospital, but she’s done “mourning” for her breasts: she is now looking forward to a life without the additional weight, without unwanted attention and with a more fabulous wardrobe, which, by the way, she’s in the process of purchasing.
