The woman holding the record for longest hair in the world has often been compared to Rapunzel, but her life is no fairy tale.

According to the Daily Mail, Asha Mandela of Atlanta, Georgia, has locks measuring 55 feet (16.7 meters).

Doctors have told her that her long, heavy hair is damaging her spine and could one day cause paralysis.

Even so, she believes that it is part of her identity and she has no intention of cutting it. She is convinced that it has helped her through many health issues.

"My hair has become part of me. It is my life. I will never cut it," she says.

In fact, the hair weighs 42 pounds (19 kg) and it is longer than a bus. The mother of one is currently wearing it styled in dreadlocks.
