As a rule, an underwire bra is meant to offer support for a better-looking, sometimes even fuller chest. A woman from Detroit, whose identity has not been made public by the police, has just found out the hard way that bras can offer other types of support as well, as hers deflected a bullet during an armed attack, ABC Local informs.

The incident occurred when the woman looked out her window, as she had seen two men breaking into a neighbor’s apartment. Apparently, one of the men shot at her, hitting her in the chest, but she managed to survive thanks to the underwire of her undergarment, which deflected the bullet and prevented it from even penetrating the flesh, the aforementioned source reports.

“Detroit police said two men broke into a home and set off the alarm. As the home invaders were fleeing, they noticed a neighbor watching them and fired a shot at her. The neighbor was shot in the chest area, but the underwire in her bra stopped the bullet from penetrating. She was only grazed by the bullet.” ABC Local says of the incident. A police spokesperson has already confirmed the news, adding, “The bra did slow the bullet down. She sustained injuries but they’re not life threatening.” Meanwhile, eyewitness are saying for the same source, “Thank God that she had on the bra. The wire protected her.”

As of now, the two men have not yet been apprehended. The woman whose house was broken into says only one piece of jewelry is missing, but she’s happy her neighbor was not seriously hurt in the incident. Reports have it that the woman with the “wonder bra” has been taken to the hospital for superficial injuries and a checkup, but is clearly outside the danger zone.

However, this is not the first time a woman’s life is saved by her bra, as per the Daily Mail. Last week, a woman escaped death in Brazil after hiding money in her undergarment, to avoid being robbed while on the bus. As an altercation ensued, a shot was fired in her direction and hit her in the chest. Luckily for her, the cash she had stuffed in it absorbed most of the impact and she was left only with some bruising after the incident.
