She was simply trying to rescue her pet cat

Earlier this week, firefighters in Presque, Maine, were called in to rescue a woman stuck in a tree. The elderly woman, described as being in her 60s, became trapped some 80 feet (25 meters) above the ground when she climbed the tree to rescue her pet cat.

Luckily, she had her phone with her and so could call for help. Otherwise, it would have probably been a while until passersby would have heard her cries for help and jumped to her aid.

Firefighters used a ladder to reach the woman and help her back on the ground. As for the cat, they tried rescuing it as well but the feline simply refused to let them catch it. Eventually, the cat descended the tree unattended, HuffPost tells us.

“They always come down eventually,” Deputy Fire Chief Rich Wark said in an interview. Apparently, the trick to getting cats to climb down trees is to leave some food for them on the ground.

It is unclear how much time the woman spent up in the tree from which she was rescued by firefighters. Still, it was long enough for her to become exhausted. Thus, her rescuers say that, once back on the pavement, the woman collapsed.

She didn't suffer any life threatening injuries, however, and the doctors called to check up on her expect that she will soon recover from the experience.
