A Fort Lauderdale drawbridge rescue is in the news today, after a participant in a breast cancer march got stuck on the raising bridge.

The railroad bridge is off limits to pedestrians, but the woman remained trapped on it as it raised up.

"Once it goes up, the gap automatically happens, so she was stuck up there. [...] All these people … pointing at this woman stuck on the bridge," witness Phillip Glazebrook describes.

According to New York Daily News, the Fort Lauderdale bridge is controlled from Tallahassee, 450 miles (725 km) away.

Firefighters used a ladder to pull down the unidentified 55-year-old woman, who was dangling 22 feet (6.7 meters) in the air.

The rest of the cancer support group were looking up, all dressed in pink, in support of the breast cancer awareness cause.
