Health experts point out whenever they get the chance that obesity is fatal but a man in Cleveland unfortunately got to learn that firsthand, when his obese girlfriend sat on him and killed him, back in August 2009. After pleading guilty to involuntary manslaughter, Mia Landingham will walk, as a court sentenced her only to probation and community service, as CBS News’ Crime Insider reveals.

The case has already gotten plenty of attention in the international media, for the obvious reasons. The fact that the victim’s family is saying they can’t understand how a judge let the obese woman walk when she admitted to sitting on her boyfriend on purpose as tempers flew in a domestic dispute is only adding more to the controversy. Still, that doesn’t change the fact that Landingham, believed to weigh about 300 pounds at the time, has just got a ticket out of jail.

An obese woman who killed her boyfriend by sitting on him will not serve any time behind bars. Mia Landingham pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter on Wednesday and was sentenced to three years probation and 100 hours of community service, according to CBS affiliate WOIO. Landingham, who was believed to weigh over 300 pounds at the time of the Aug. 2009 incident, sat on Mikal Middleton-Bey as he was face first on the couch,” CBC News informs.

“According to her lawyer, there was a history of domestic abuse between Landingham and her boyfriend, FOX News reports. Investigators say the victim was 5’10” tall and weighed 126 pounds. Landingham is 5’9” tall. A police scale that went up to 350 pounds wasn’t enough to accurately weigh the Cleveland woman, according to the affiliate,” the same media outlet goes on to inform.

Reports say Landingham stated in court she was very “sorry” for committing the crime and sitting on her boyfriend until he was dead. His family is still amazed at the outcome, saying they felt as if no kind of justice had been done.
