Earlier this month, 40-year-old Yasmin Eleby and herself tied the knot in a gorgeous ceremony held in the city of Houston in Texas, US, where she currently lives.

The woman was married to herself by three ministers, one of whom was her own sister. She had her mother walk her down the aisle and her closest friends where there by her side to share the moment.

In case anyone was wondering, yes, it is still illegal to marry yourself in the US. Hence, Yasmin Eleby was more a spiritual bride. Still, this does not change the fact that she is quite happy to have taken this step.

How Yasmin Eleby ended up marrying herself

As mentioned, this woman is now 40 years old. She says that, when she was younger, she made it a goal to find the perfect man and marry him by the time she reached this age.

Seeing how this did not happen, Yasmin Eleby did some soul searching and realized that she did not need a man to put on a bride's dress, walk down the aisle and be married by a minister. She had herself and that was more than enough.

True, most brides go for the traditional white dress when getting married. However, since her wedding ceremony was not in any way conventional, the 40-year-old woman decided to put on a purple gown.

Apart from saying her vows to herself in front of three ministers, Yasmine Eleby even threw a bridal party and had as many as ten bridesmaids stand by her side at the altar. All that was missing was the husband that is usually present at such events.

The woman will even go on a honeymoon

Apparently, Yasmine Eleby is a big fan of traveling the world. Later this year, she plans to visit Cambodia, Laos, and Dubai. The 40-year-old says that these trips will count as her honeymoon.

In a Facebook post, the woman explains that her decision to marry herself was not so much a sign of rebellion as it was a means for her to assert her independence and prove to the world that one does not have to miss out on life simply because they are single.

“I couldn’t imagine the ceremony being any more poignant and meaningful. I’m doing so many things that I only dreamed about and never thought would be possible. I want to encourage each of you to spread your wings and fly!”

“You are not too old and it’s not too late to try something different, learn a new skill, travel to exciting places. Don’t be afraid to take risks. I’ve learned that family and friends are always willing to welcome you back home if/when you decide to return,” the post reads.
