14 DAY TRIAL // This past Tuesday, a woman in Nebraska, US, presented the District Court of Omaha with a 7-page handwritten petition asking that a judge strike their mighty hammer and rule once and for all whether or not being gay is a sin.
That's right, this woman, identified as 66-year-old Sylvia Ann Driskell of Auburn, filed a lawsuit against all the gay people everywhere on Earth.
Before you make any comments on this petition of hers, you should know that, technically, it wasn't Sylvia Ann Driskell who filed suit. Au contraire, the plaintiffs are God and Jesus Christ. The 66-year-old is only their ambassador.
Thus, the woman makes sure to point out that she wrote and filed the petition acting as “ambassador for plaintiffs God and His Son, Jesus Christ.”
Sylvia Ann Driskell thinks gay people are liars and thieves
In her petition to the US District Court of Omaha, the 66-year-old woman denounces gay people as immoral beings, liars and thieves. To back up her claims, she quotes - what else? - the Bible.
“Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind. It is an abomination,” she writes. She further argues that, being liars and thieves, such people should not be allowed to get married, let alone have kids. No words on the preferred marital status of, say, serial killers, however.
“We know that if a child is raised in a home of liers [sic], an [sic] deceivers, and thieves that it is reasonable to believe that child will grow up to be one of the three, are [sic] all three,” she warns.
Before you ask, no, Sylvia Ann Driskell does not mention any actual legal issues. Then again, the very fact that she wants a judge to decide whether or not lying with mankind as with womankind is a sin is reason enough to question her understanding of the law and how it works.
Surprise, surprise, the woman's lawsuit will not proceed
In response to this petition, a representative for the US Court of Omaha said that no summons were issued but refused to make any other comments on the matter at hand.
Otherwise put, there is no way this lawsuit will proceed. For the time being, it is unclear how Sylvia Ann Driskell feels about the legal system's refusal to prosecute gay people for being sinners.
