When she was just 15 years old, the woman stopped drinking water

Ever since she was 15 years old and until the age of 31, a woman living in Monaco drank nothing but soda.

She mainly consumed cola, of which she ingested some 2 liters per day.

Doctors first became acquainted with her case when the woman fainted and had to be rushed to a hospital.

Tests showed that she had worryingly low potassium levels, and that she was suffering from a so-called QT syndrome.

Long story short: her heart was unable to keep up a steady pace, and her heartbeats were rather erratic.

After learning that the woman had not had a glass of water in more than a decade and a half, doctors asked her to refrain from drinking any soda and switch to other beverages.

Sources say that, once she gave up on soda, the woman started feeling better in about a week's time.

“One of the take-home messages is that cardiologists need to be aware of the connection between cola consumption and potassium loss, and should ask patients found to have QT prolongation about beverage habits,” Dr. Naima Zarqane wished to emphasize.
