A resident of Calgary, Canada has gotten the deal of a lifetime on hardwood flooring, thanks to a mistake on the provider's website.

Sheila Laird describes for Global News how she noticed an unusually small price on the Small Depot website. She managed to get cases upon cases of hardwood floor tiles for less than $3 (€2.21) a box.

“It said regular 65 dollars (€48) per case down to 2 dollars and 97 (€2.2) a case,” she recalls.

The first price was obviously correct, but she gave ordering under the second price a try. It paid off and she was allowed the purchase.

She had printed out a screengrab of the offer and taken it to a Home Depot location. Once there, operators put through the purchase.

“My motto is it never hurts to ask, so I asked, I went in and I received it and I paid for it. So I haven’t done anything wrong as far as I’m concerned,” she says.

Laird managed to get all her flooring done for under $210 (€155). After buying out all the tiles she could from one store, she went to a second location. However, attendants at the second shop realized that they had to cancel all her orders.

She argued that she only went by a price posted on their website, which they had to honor. She even put forward a valid receipt.

“They said, ‘no sorry, it was an associate error, we can’t let you have it, we’ll give you a free case if you buy the other 52 cases at 65 dollars a case.’ I’m like, ‘yeah, but I have a receipt. You guys actually put it through the system,’” she details.

The company let her keep the product and even issued an apology.

“We understand there was an error made at one of our stores. Our customer service team has contacted Mrs. Laird and apologized for the misunderstanding. She will receive her flooring and it should be delivered to her home over the next few days,” a spokesperson states.
