Gambit actor punches all body fat away

It’s not a secret anymore that actors occasionally go through radical workouts or diets to better fit a part. For Canadian Taylor Kitsch, though, building up muscle mass for the role of Gambit in the upcoming “Wolverine” film has been just a fun way of continuing to do what he loves so much, namely train, as the actor himself reveals for the latest issue of Men’s Health magazine.

Kitsch was a hokey player before he even considered going into acting. Now, he’s a certified personal trainer and, as per his own admission, a sports freak. Boxing keeps him in shape and in excellent health, while also allowing his mind to stay alert and helping him blow off Steam after a long working day on set. Because he has learned, in time, the many benefits of boxing, he is now willing to share them with the rest of the world as well.

One of Kitsch’s easiest tricks, but also the most useful in his case, consists of short training sessions. Once he’s up in the ring, the actor keeps going for about three minutes, after which he takes a 1-minute break and then starts again. Short, repetitive sessions are also the key when it comes to cardio exercises, because it helps him dose his effort, while also keeping things interesting and boredom at bay. “Keeping up that pace revs my metabolism and keeps it there all day.” Kitsch says for the fitness & health magazine.

Unlike Kitsch, co-star Hugh Jackman has had a rough time training for “Wolverine,” also being forced to go on a special diet for the part. “I get up at 4am and eat egg whites, then every three hours after that. I have a combination of protein or steamed vegetables and brown rice. Then after midday, no rice or carbohydrates. It’s just vegetables and meat or fish. I train for an hour and a half a day, five days a week – weights, treadmill, rowing, everything. Then I do what my trainer calls ‘a play session’ on the sixth, which previously would have killed me in itself.” Jackman told Showbiz a while back.
