In the United Kingdom

Wolverine is huge. It is one of the biggest comic book characters in the world, with Marvel banking on its popularity by featuring it in comic series, offering it an Origins movie tracking its evolution and by building a videogame around that movie.

Breaking with tradition, the videogame tie in is not just a cheaply developed product with no real value, but an experience that manages to transmit some of the essential characteristics of Wolverine. Still, it could not manage to take down Wii Fit from the top position in the United Kingdom videogame chart.

For the fifth week in a row, the fitness game reigns supreme with titles like The Godfather and The Chronicles of Riddick failing to dislodge it. This week, X-Men Origins: Wolverine from Activision is sitting at number two, followed by FIFA 09 from EA Sports, which is seeing a rise in sales due to the excellent matches from the Champions League that can be replicated in the game. Wii Play has jumped from the eighth place to the fourth, while Resident Evil 5 is stubbornly holding on to its place in the chart.

Mario Kart Wii proves to be another perennial best seller for Nintendo, sitting at number 6 in the chart, while The Chronicles of Riddick from Atari and The Godfather II from Electronic Arts have each lost five places to go down to seven and eight. Professor Layton and the Curious Village from Nintendo seems to finally lose its staying power, slipping down to nine, while Call of Duty: World at War its continuing a good run and ending the chart.

One of the most surprising presences in the top 20 is WSC Real 20009: World Snooker Championship from Blade Sports, which is probably in the 20th place because the World Championship has been going for the last two weeks.
