Wolfram|Alpha, the computational knowledge search engine, has just been launched for the Android platform. The application is advertised mainly for the T-Mobile G2 smartphone, but it can also be downloaded on other devices running Android 1.6 or newer.

Wolfram|Alpha enables users to search by voice or text, or try to find answers about math, science, engineering, health and nutrition, geography, economics, linguistics, people and history, sports, music, and many other subjects.

Users will get answers from Wolfram|Alpha’s massive knowledge base in an instant, as the developer's repository of curated data, includes over ten trillion data elements, as well as a considerably large library that contains tens of thousands of sophisticated computational models.

Further, the application features Android native voice-input capability, which lets users speak their queries to Wolfram|Alpha and get their answers without using their hands for typing.

It also includes specialized keyboards, which make mathematical expressions look and feel natural, enhancing usability and understanding.

You can even use the Wolfram|Alpha App for Android to monitor your daily nutrition intake while on the go.

You just need to simply type or speak the contents of your breakfast into the app to get a nutrition label and a breakdown of daily values.

Unfortunately, it seems that the application cannot be downloaded from the Android Market yet, but those interested can get it using the QR code here.

Some users report crashes when trying send queries through the application. These are caused by the fact that the GPS is turned off.

To fix this problem you can either turn on the GPS location function and lose a lot of the battery life, or simply go to Settings / More / Preferences, and uncheck “Send location data.”

The application is compatible with Android 1.6 and later and can be downloaded for $1.99 on the T-Mobile Channel or developer's website.
