Wolfenstein: The Old Blood, the upcoming standalone expansion for Wolfenstein: The New Order, has just received some fresh gameplay details, including a confirmation that it's going to feature Nazi zombies in the second part of its story.

Wolfenstein: The New Order impressed millions of shooter fans last year, when it appeared from developer MachineGames and publisher Bethesda. The title took quite a few liberties with the established Wolfenstein lore and took things into a new direction, beyond World War 2.

Instead of new DLC episodes, MachineGames and Bethesda are gearing up to debut Wolfenstein: The Old Blood, a standalone expansion that acts as a prequel to the main story, portraying some earlier moments with protagonist BJ Blazkowicz.

New details confirm special mechanics in The Old Blood

After some early information was given to fans as part of the announcement, more fresh details have just been shared by Bethesda on its Bethblog, confirming a few interesting gameplay mechanics that are included in The Old Blood.

The game unfolds across eight chapters, with the first half focusing on Rudi Jager and the Den of Wolves storyline, while the second is called The Dark Secrets of Helga von Schnabbs.

The initial storyline sees BJ travel to the iconic Castle Wolfenstein and features quite a lot of mechanics already seen in The New Order. However, it also introduces new elements, such as a pipe that can be used as a weapon but also to climb certain walls and reach new areas.

New enemies are also included, so that players are constantly kept on their toes, including a mini-boss that provides a serious challenge.

The second part of The Old Blood brings Nazi zombies

However, fans will definitely have to reach the second part of the campaign in The Old Blood, as it brings a new type of enemy, in the form of Nazi zombies. Apparently, one of the dark secrets includes undead soldiers, and players will have their work cut out for them.

Lots of other surprises are promised for fans, so they'll have plenty of reasons to get Wolfenstein: The Old Blood when it launches on PC, PS4, and Xbox One on May 5. Until then, check out the fresh screenshots below.
