The team wants to recapture the feeling of classic titles

The development team working on the new Wolfenstein: The New Order title will aim to bring back a focus on movement that classic shooters used at one time and which have been abandoned by current generation teams.

Jens Matthies, the creative director working at MachineGames, tells VG247 that, “We want to recapture that sense of movement that a lot of modern shooters have lost. There’s a lot of focus on headshots and of leading you through scenarios and we want to get away from that.”

Many gamers have complained that modern series like Call of Duty and Battlefield tend to guide the player too much while taking away his freedom to explore levels and engage enemies in any way he wants.

The new Wolfenstein will only offer a single-player mode and MachineGames is determined to create an Artificial intelligence that can challenge the player and create a very entertaining series of gunfights.

Matthies adds, “the AI will force you out of cover and charge you if you’re too passive and we think that’s a cool way to play because you have to be thinking all the time. Sure, if you’re not used to that it’s a bit of a learning curve to get used to it.”

In Wolfenstein: The New Order, players will once again step in the combat boots of B.J. Blaskowitz as he inhabits an alternate reality where Nazis have managed to win World War II and are now even capable of sending a man to the Moon.

Players will be able to take over German technology and use it for their own purposes.

The team promises that the legacy of Wolfenstein will be present and that a set of features designed specifically for modern players will be introduced.

Launch date is set for 2013 and the game will be offered on the PC and on consoles.
