In order to mark the 20th anniversary of the original Wolfenstein 3D launch, the game that established the core features of the first-person shooter genre, video game developer and publisher Bethesda has decided to launch a free-to-play browser-based version of the game that can be accessed on the official Facebook page or on the core site.

The company has also released a new video featuring John Carmack, the current tech director at id Software, speaking about the creation of Wolfenstein 3D while also replaying the game.

Those who like to do their gaming on iOS-powered devices can also get Wolfenstein 3D Classic Platinum free from iTunes.

The most recent Wolfenstein video game dates back to 2009 and was set to reboot the series, but it failed to attract fans and the series seems to be dormant at the moment, although id Software recently created a new game engine and might be tempted to use it for a revival.
