The animals here are recovering after suffering various abuses, have nowhere to go

About 25 years ago, a fundraising campaign entitled “Don't let our wolves become homeless” allowed a non-profit group militating for wildlife conservation to set the basis for the Iberian Wolf Recovery Center.

This facility was intended to provide shelter for abused wolves, some of which were rescued from the illegal trading market.

In spite of the fact that the people running this wildlife park somehow managed to make ends meet and kept the wolf refuge up and running for almost a quarter of a decade, it now seems that the progress made so far in terms of rehabilitating the animals here could be cut short as a result of lack of funds.

More precisely, the land owned by the Iberian Wolf Recovery Center, which comprises roughly 42 acres, has to be repurchased by Grupo Lobo (i.e. the team of conservationists behind this project) as soon as possible, otherwise both these greenheads and the animals in their care will have to leave this region.

Global Animal explains that, although some would suggest that the wolves could be simply sent to other wildlife parks, their number is far too great for other animal sanctuaries in Europe to be able to take them in and see that their needs are properly met.

As well as this, releasing the animals back into the wild is not an option, given the fact that the abuses and injuries these wolves suffered in the past make it impossible for them to adapt to life outside this center.

With the sole purpose of convincing high officials in the Iberian Peninsula to lend a helping hand to Grupo Lobo and their green-oriented agenda, an online petition was started and those wishing to sign it can do so here.

Hopefully, the public's involvement in this issue will lead to this wolf sanctuary's managing to hold on to its lands and to Grupo Lobo's being able to carry on its work of rehabilitating these abused animals and educating people with respect to wildlife conservation.
