As it popped up in movie theaters in 2003 the Aussie horror flick was a total shock and surprise: it was one of the raunchiest and nastiest things to be seen on a silver screen in quite a long time. The horror fans loved it, the critics found it interesting as it had almost all the distinctive features of the nihilistic and cheap '70s: slow development, actual gore, lack of pity for its characters, a mind blowing ending. And it was, believe it or not (I for one choose not to believe) based on real facts that took place in Australia.
The Uncut director's cut edition has the usual stuff that comes with the package: audio comments by the director and some of the stars, plus the deleted scenes.
The story begins with three back-packers heading into the isolated Australian outback. After several days of driving, they finally arrive at Wolf Creek National Park and set up camp. The following morning, while preparing to leave, they realize their watches don't work and their car won't start. As panic sets in, they notice strange lights heading straight for them and a friendly local offering help. This is where the real "fun" begins, and the trio must face one of the most frightening madmen in the history of film. Written and directed by Greg McLean, WOLF CREEK stars John Jarrat, Cassandra McGrath, Kestie Morassi and Nathan Phillips.
