Let's suppose you have a file archive and you want to decompress it quickly and easily without downloading and installing a stand-alone utility able to do that. In case it's
in the ZIP format, you can do it with the built-in XP ZIP support but what if it comes under the RAR, 7z, CAB or ARJ format? You can either download such a software program or use WobZip. WobZip is the easiest way to decompress files online without having to get any application. All you need to do is to upload your archive and press the WobZip! button. The files are then automatically decompressed and offered as file downloads, one by one.

The useful thing comes from the URL support which lets you decompress an archive straight from a web link without the need for downloading and re-uploading it on the WobZip servers. Moreover, if the archives are protected by a password, there's a special field which lets you enter it and continue the decompression.

What's interesting is that the service allows you to upload archives of up to 100MB, so you won't be too limited when it comes to file size. Moreover, due to the fact that the service works with 7-Zip, it supports several file formats, as it follows: 7z, ZIP, GZIP, BZIP2, TAR, RAR, CAB, ISO, ARJ, LZHCHM, Z, CPIO, RPM, DEB and NSIS.

Worried that your files could be seen by other people? The owners of the service say this won't happen because "each file is encoded with a hash, so you can be assured that we will not open, view or distribute your files." Moreover, you have the option to delete the files using the "Delete all files" button displayed after the decompression is complete.

Besides the decompression, WobZip also provides a little bit of virus protection because it automatically scans all the files with BitDefender Anti-virus in order to make sure that both their servers and your computer remain untouched.

WobZip is a great innovation. I use it as an emergency decompressor/decryptor for 256-bit AES encrypted backup files in cloud storage.
