Disney Interactive Studios is sending word that it is developing and that it plans to release a video-game based upon the hit television show “Wizards of Waverly Place,” which airs on the Disney Channel. The title is set to arrive on the Nintendo DS handheld system and will feature all of the characters present in the show.

The main character of the television show and of the video-game is Alex Russo, a teenager who is also a wizard in training. She is played by Selena Gomez and the title is set to faithfully recreate her image as she goes on a quest to become a better wizard. Basically, Wizards of Waverly Place is set to be a collection of interesting mini games, all built so that Alex gets a new magical power from each of them.

Between the mini titles, the main character can move around and explore the most well-known locations in the show, like the Waverly Sub Station, the Wizards Lair, the Tribeca Prep, the Russo loft, and others. The story line is set to be based on that told on the television show, but will offer a lot of new content, which is sure to attract fans of the series who are looking for more.

The main character is joined by her two brothers, named Justin and Max, who are constantly on the look out and trying to make sure that their wizardly sister does not get into too much trouble. Of course, they often fail and these adventures are set to be faithfully re-created in the upcoming video-game.

The Disney Channel, which is aimed at kids and young adolescents, has quite a few intellectual properties that are successful. There are, naturally, the now-inevitable Hannah Montana and the Jonas Brothers, but also series like Phineas and Ferb and Wizards of Waverly Place. All these have a clear potential to be turned into video-games, as they have significant fan followings, which are sure to get the titles if they expand the universe of the shows in an interesting way.
