The Enhanced Edition of Baldur’s Gate is getting closer to its summer 2012 launch date on the PC and iOS-powered tablets and the development team working on it believes that it can create an experience that mixes the best of both gaming worlds.

Cameron Tofer, who is the chief operating officer at Overhaul Games, told TabTimes that his team reduced the size of Baldur’s Gate, eliminating a lot of Microsoft only elements and taking it down to about 2 MB for the core game files.

He says, “Now we’re redoing the UI. That’s going to be really exciting because it’ll open the game up to UI mods and all kinds of other wonderful stuff. I can’t say exactly how it’s going to do yet.

“We’re still iterating it to find out. With our first passes, we were reworking the UI to be more flexible, where we can start making different changes, and then see where it goes.”

The team needs to create an interface system that will satisfy tablet users while also keeping the classic feel of the game intact.

The developer also talked about how he obtained the rights to the Baldur’s Gate universe, which is linked to Wizards of the Coast, adding, “It wasn’t easy. It took us well over a year to negotiate. We built a relationship with them where we told them that we wanted to take on the project and would treat it with the utmost respect.

“We’d worked with them in the past on other projects. We put the case forward that we’re the ones to do it, and it’s developed into a great working relationship.”

The Enhanced Edition of Baldur’s Gate will have an upgraded graphics engine, more quests and full voice work for any new characters.

The development team has also announced that they are thinking about creating a full-on Baldur’s Gate 3 as long as the Enhanced Editions for the two existing titles perform well in the marketplace.
