Wix.com, which built a rather successful business helping inexperienced users create Flash-based sites, has come up with an alternative product that leverages HTML5, future-proofing any site created with it and also ensuring that it works on all tablets and mobile devices.

The momentum against Flash is building up, or rather the momentum behind HTML5 is building up at the expense of Flash, making Adobe's decision to abandon it on mobile platforms and focus more on HTML5 all the more welcomed and forward thinking.

The new HTML5 editor is offered alongside the Flash one and there seem to be just as many templates for the HTML5 one as for the Flash version.

"Compatible across the web, HTML5 is quickly turning into the preferred platform of millions of website and mobile developers around the world," Wix.com explained.

"More social than its predecessors, HTML5 loads website pages faster, allows for more interactivity like video and audio embedding, animation, charts and fully customizable content in text input, search and geolocation," it added.

A big part of the decision is the switch to the mobile web, a lot more people are spending a lot more time on the web via their phones and tablets.

Most of those devices don't support Flash and no new ones will support either, Adobe has dropped development on the mobile version of the runtime.

Wix.com enables users with no technical skills to build a website, for their company, organization or just for themselves without having to learn any HTML, CSS or Flash for that matter.

With the HTML5 editor, like the Flash one, users can simply drag-and-drop elements to customize the look of their sites. Some 60 templates are available, but you can also roll up your sleeves and start from scratch. The site will continue to support both Flash and HTML5 for the foreseeable future.
