14 DAY TRIAL // Microsoft continues its struggle to convince users to move from Windows XP to a newer platform, but it turns out that many actually prefer to wait before making upgrading due to the upcoming launch of the new Windows 9.
As you probably heard by now if you’re a Microsoft enthusiast, Windows 9 is very likely to debut in early 2015, which makes the move to Windows 8 the second choice for many users out there.
In a post on the official Windows blog that calls for tech savvy consumers to help move Windows XP users to a newer release, many people mention that waiting for Windows 9 actually makes much more sense, especially because it’s expected to fix many of the issues found in Windows 8 and make the entire platform a lot more user-friendly.
“Given Windows 9 is already on the horizon, I was unwilling to saddle new machines with a short-timer OS, and then learn its idiosyncrasies just to support a handful of users. We're taking the same approach at work where 5,000 XP machines are being replaced over a period of several years with Windows 7 hardware or Windows 7 VDI,” one of the users explains.
“If you sincerely want to make progress in dropping that number, and quickly, give us Windows 7 now. That will give us almost 18 months until Windows 9 is projected to RTM. If Windows 9 is solid, you'll see massive migrations. However, if Windows 9 turns out to be Windows 8 with a spritz of perfume on it, all bets are off,” another one adds.
Windows 9 is projected to be launched, according to some recent rumors, in early 2015, and is very likely to come with big changes, including a Start Menu and options to run Metro apps right on the desktop.
