An official Snapchat client is not yet available on WP

The Snapchat on Windows Phone saga isn't likely to come to an end very soon, as there's still absolutely no word on whether the messaging app could arrive on Microsoft's mobile platform or not in the coming months.

Official Snapchat clients already exist on iOS and Android, but no such application is available for Windows Phone, so the only way to use the service on Microsoft's service would be a third-party client.

And yet, Snapchat has recently started banning third-party clients on all platforms, including Windows Phone, so in case you attempt to connect with any other app besides the official one, your account could get locked almost instantly.

So is there any chance to get Snapchat on Windows Phone anytime soon? At this point, it's all just a big enigma for every one of us and any inquiries sent to the two companies involved in this, namely Microsoft and Snapchat, end up with either a “no comment” or no answer at all.

Consequences

The biggest problem with this uncertainty is the fact that some users who cannot live without Snapchat actually decide to move to a different platform, be it Android or iOS, where an official client is already available.

Imagine that, for people who chat with friends and family on Snapchat, the lack of an official client on Windows Phone is a deal breaker, so it's easy to see why some decide to jump ship.

But there's no doubt that Microsoft cannot afford to lose more users and its relatively small market share is clearly living proof that the company should try whatever it takes to keep customers satisfied.

In the past, Microsoft itself worked with several companies to bring official apps on its platforms, so maybe similar negotiations are underway behind closed doors as we speak.

Back in 2013, when Windows 8.1 came out, Microsoft worked with Facebook to bring the social network's official client on desktops and tablets running the new OS version, as no such application was available at that point on modern Windows.

Let's just hope that the same is happening again and Windows 10 will finally come with a Snapchat client. Microsoft owes this to its users.
