Video game developer CD Projekt RED is finally ready to reveal the full opening cinematic for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, which is designed to show the power of the engine powering the title and the complex story that the team has built around the past and present of main character Geralt.

The footage shows Yennefer of Vengerberg in the past and the Witcher in the present of the video game as they explore the same battlefield, with flashbacks revealing how powerful the sorceress can be.

CD Projekt RED has not given fans of the series full information about the story of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, but it has said that it wants to explore the past adventures of Geralt with complex political themes and a threat which can destroy the entire world of the series.

The team states, "Foreshadowing the story of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, The Trail Opening Cinematic is an epic sneak peek into the adventure that awaits gamers in Wild Hunt. See witchers Geralt of Rivia and his mentor Vesemir pursue Geralt’s long lost love, the immensely powerful, raven-black-haired sorceress - Yennefer of Vengerberg."

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt delivers an improved open world

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt aims to deliver an open world experience for the first time in the series, with a world that's bigger than that of both previous titles combined, with more characters to interact with.

Geralt is visibly aged and needs to draw on all his skills and connections in order to deal with the threat posed by the supernatural force that's connected to both him and Yennefer.

CD Projekt RED says that the game will wrap up all the core storylines of the series and that plenty of fan favorites will make an appearance.

Aside from the main story, gamers will also be able to explore a wide range of side quests and there are also plenty of monsters that can be hunted, with the trophies exchanged for cash or simply used to improve equipment.

The development team is also improving the core combat mechanics of the series, with a nimbler main character and combat sequences that will require more tactical planning and careful execution.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will be launched on the PC, the Xbox One from Microsoft and the PlayStation 4 from Sony on February 24 of 2015, after being delayed from the fall of the current year.
