Wireshark, the world’s most popular free network protocol analyzer software, has been recently updated to version 1.12.4, a release that introduces a large number of improvements, addresses lots of bugs, and brings updated protocol support, as well as new and updated capture file support.

According to the official release notes, Wireshark 1.12.4 patches six security vulnerabilities that were discovered since the previous version of the software, Wireshark 1.12.3. These were mostly related to the dissectors, including WCP, WCP dissector, LLDP, SCSI OSD, and TNEF. Numerous bugs have been fixed in Wireshark 1.12.4.

Among them, we can mention incorrect parsing of IPv6 mobility header link layer address, IPv6 mobility header link-layer address mobility option, and DNS NXT RR, a "Telephony→SCTP→Analyse This Association" crash, as well as incorrect parsing of authentication data and mobility SPI by the IPv6 AUTH mobility option.

Additionally, incorrect decoding of IPv4 interface and neighbor address sub-TLVs in extended IS reachability TLV of IS-IS has been repaired, little-endian Mac OS X Bluetooth PacketLogger files are now correctly handled, the X.509 certificate serial number will no longer be interpreted as a negative number, and RTP player no longer crashes when decoding long calls.

The internal protocol support has been greatly improved

Wireshark 1.12.4 also fixes an issue with the Juniper Packet Mirror dissector, which expects IPv6 flow label equal to 0 (zero), correctly displays ZigBee epoch time in OTA cluster, addresses DNS LOC Precision missing units and BSSGP Status PDU decoding fault, makes the Display Filter Macro option editable again, and correctly decodes packets on OpenBSD loopback.

Besides the aforementioned bug fixes, Wireshark 1.12.4 also updates the internal protocol support for IPv6, IEEE 802.11, HTTP, H.264, DHCP, DHCPv6, AppleMIDI, GSM A BSSMAP, GSM RLC MAC, GSM A-bis OML, GSM MAP, LDAP, Juniper Jmirror, RSYNC, DNS, Novell PKIS, PPPoE, and many others.

Last but not least, the NetScaler, Pcapng, and PacketLogger capture file protocols have been updated. Download Wireshark 1.12.4 for Linux, Mac OS X, and Microsoft Windows right now via our dedicated download sections for the aforementioned operating systems.
