Wireshark, one of the world's most popular open-source and cross-platform network analyzer software, reached version 1.12.6 on June 16, 2015, for GNU/Linux, Mac OS X, and Microsoft Windows operating systems.

According to the release notes, which have been attached at the end of the article, Wireshark 1.12.6 is a small release that patches a couple of security issues, updates support for some protocols, and addresses several bugs that have been reported by users since the previous release of the software.

Two security issues have been patched in Wireshark 1.12.6, wnpa-sec-2015-19 (a crash that occurred in the WCCP (Web Cache Communication Protocol) dissector) and wnpa-sec-2015-20 (a crash that occurred in the GSM Direct Transfer Application sub-Part (DTAP) dissector).

Among the bug fixes, we can mention that a crash with Wireshark 1.12.1 that occurred during startup on the Mac OS X 10.10 (Yosemite) operating system has been resolved, as well as a crash that occurred in the "Edit column details" dialog, various problems with the subnet name resolution, and iSCSI issues related to incorrect displaying of "Data In" and "Response" frame number.

Several protocols have been updated

In addition to the bug fixes mentioned above, Wireshark 1.12.6 now correctly displays X.400 addresses, solves issues in the Port Control Protocol (PCP) packet dissection to correctly decode R bit, adds proper support for decoding SIP MIME body containing ISUP, and repairs issues in the "tshark -z io,stat,1,SUM(ip.len)" command so that it no longer reports invalid status and triggers ASAN (Autistic Self Advocacy Network) buffer overrun.

Last but not least, Wireshark 1.12.6 comes with updates for several protocols, including, GSM DTAP (Direct Transfer Application sub-Part), iSCSI (Internet Small Computer System Interface), P1, PCP (Port Control Protocol), SIP (Session Initiation Protocol), and WCCP (Web Cache Communication Protocol).
