Wanting to take off the USB cables from a computer, Wisair launched a Wireless Universal Serial BUS (WUSB) that references design in the Ultra Wideband (UWB) industry. The new reference design has an included WUSB PC dongle and also a WUSB Hub, that provides to the peripheral manufacturers and electronics consumers wireless connectivity to devices that are USB enabled.

Digital cameras, mobile phones, as well as printers, scanners or remote hard disk drives can be plugged directly in the WUSB Hub. They will receive wireless connectivity to a PC. In other words, a WUSB Hub replaces any wire line USB connection with a wireless one.

"We are very excited about the traction that Wisair is making and expect to see our chipsets integrated into many products in 2006," stated David Yaish, Wisair president and CEO. "In particular, our new WUSB reference design fulfils a strong market need for wireless connectivity to portable devices, a business decision validated as we have already secured agreements with multiple manufacturing partners."

Enabling transfer speeds of up to 480 MBs, the hub can be placed at one side of the room where it can send data wirelessly. The hub features two or four ports that connect it to the existing USB devices. As for the range, the WUSB Hub can be located to more than 15 meters away from the WUSB dongle that is plugged into a PC.

The reference design of the WUSB hub integrates the second generation Wisair WiMedia based UWB chip. The 480 MBs hub has a small form factor integrated antenna and also it can be used with 802.11a/b/g and Bluetooth devices. Moreover, the reference design offers a good performance in noisy environments.

Planning to launch a second generation of Certified Wireless USB version during 2006, the actual package comes included with software for management, control and association.
