The idea of being able to recharge the batteries of one's mobile device without having to connect a wire to one of its ports in order to do so is quite an exciting one, and even if, for the time being, there are very few handsets offering such a feature in the standard package, it seems that none other than Apple's famous iPhone 4 might actually benefit from it in the near future.

Unfortunately, if you happen to be wondering, Apple has not decided to implement such a technology within their smartphone, this functionality being available via a new adapter created by Maxell, that prompts users to insert their iPhone into a special sleeve.

The sleeve is then placed onto a special pad, that can house and charge either a single iPhone (model WP-PD10S.BK) or two devices (model WP-PD10.BK), and the smartphone's internal battery is then recharged via a process known as induction charging.

The wireless pad also sports some regular USB connectors, used for charging compatible devices the old-fashioned, wired way, and draws its power from an AC adapter, connected to the mains.

Furthermore, the wireless charging pad (dual version) will take a very small amount of space wherever it might be placed, since it measures 215 x 15 x 185 mm (excluding protrusions) and weighs approximately 350g, while the single-space version is even smaller, measuring 112 x 15 x 188 mm (excluding protrusions) and weighing just around 180 grams.

The sleeve used for housing the iPhone 4, on the other hand, measures 63 x 14 x 125 mm (excluding protrusions) and weighs about 40g.

Maxell's wireless charging solutions are set to arrive in stores on the 25'th of March, 2011, but the company has not yet provided any details regarding the pricing of either of these two products.
