AssetMetrix Research Labs published recently the results of a study related the adoption rate of the Windows XP Service Pack 2 within IT companies. 251 companies, amounting 136,000 PCs, from North America were interviewed. The conclusion of the test was that only 24% of these systems had the Service Pack 2 installed.

Microsoft allowed sufficient time to pass for users to install the security patch, even if most of them said that they first want to convince themselves of the
efficiency of the system and that they wait reviews from specialized sources before implementing SP2 into the IT infrastructure of the company.

The result of study show that a lot of companies are still waiting the verdict for the patch or at least thats how they motivate why the systems havent been updated until now.

However, a decision has to be taken soon, because Microsoft could cause (intentionally or not) a lot of problems to these stubborn users: incompatibilities with future programs of the company (Internet Explorer 7) or the lack of any support once the support for Windows XP Service Pack 1 is withdrawn.

Microsoft presented many times the advantages of applying the magapatch Windows XP Service Pack.

According to their own site, the number of problems solved by the patch exceeds 150.
The majority of patches and updates is related to the networking part of Windows XP, among which 138 are focused on the essential parts of the operating system.

SP2 corrects several aspects of Internet Explorer, such as: the look, Outlook Express, multimedia, COM+, IIS, MDAC, Media Center Edition, printing, compatibility problems, remote desktop, RPC, installing, video, and Windows Management Instrumentation.
