Net Applications figures for the month of February 2013 revealed that Windows 7 was the number one operating system in the world, closely followed by Windows XP, the 11-year-old operating system that Microsoft plans to retire in April, 2014.

StatCounter data, on the other hand, indicates that XP is quickly losing users, while Windows 7 increases its market share every month.

While Windows 7 recorded a market share of 52.46 percent in February, Windows XP dropped to 23.87 percent, which could be an indication that users are finally moving to a newer operating system.

Mac OS X came third with 7.54 percent, followed by the Vista disaster with 6.37 percent. iOS platforms are included in the top five as well, as they reached 3.96 percent, while Windows 8 failed to make the cut and show up in the February 2013 operating system statistics.
