Microsoft is trying to get rid of Windows XP, but it turns out that users aren’t quite ready to abandon the ancient platform and move to a newer operating system.

A new round of statistics provided by market researcher StatCounter for the first 21 days of December 2013 shows that, while Windows XP’s market share is declining, only a few users are actually moving from the aging operating system to a modern platform.

At this point, Windows XP has a market share of 18.53 percent, which makes it the second most popular operating system in the entire world, after Windows 7, which is still powering 51.33 percent of the computers.

As far as Microsoft’s modern platforms are concerned, Windows 8 currently holds a share of 7.54 percent, which could be an indication that many users are still picking Windows 7 as their next destination.
