Even though Microsoft will retire Windows XP next year, more than half of Chinese computers users are still running it, according to a new round of statistics.

StatCounter reveals that Windows XP now has a market share of 54.13 percent in China, while Windows 7, which is actually the world’s number one operating system, comes second with only 38.01 percent.

All the other platforms are way behind with pretty small market shares, even though Microsoft has invested a fortune into making Windows 8 a successful product.

The modern OS, for instance, indeed reached the third place of the podium, but it’s only powering 2.56 percent of computers in the country. And still, this is enough to overtake iOS and Mac OS X, which reached 1.77 and 1.10 percent market shares, respectively.

Vista has also made the cut, as it’s now running on 0.61 percent of desktop PCs in China.
