Windows XP will be discontinued on April 8, 2014, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that all users want to jump ship and move to another operating system by this date.

Statistics provided by market researcher Net Applications show that Windows XP’s share declined to 28.98 percent in December, which means that the 12-year-old operating system has lost 2.24 percent of its users in just 30 days.

And still, this is another indication that not everyone wants to abandon Windows XP, even though Microsoft warned so many times that sticking to this particular platform beyond its retirement date is a very risky decision.

The unpatched system would basically be an open door for hackers who’ll definitely try to exploit vulnerabilities in Windows XP, Microsoft said, especially because no one would try to patch them after they become public.
