New market share statistics rolled out this morning show that Windows XP is still a very popular choice, despite all Microsoft’s efforts to move users to either Windows 8 or 8.1.

Net Application claims that Windows XP is now installed on 31.24 percent of computers worldwide, which is only a slight decline from the 31.42 percent market share posted in September 2013.

Windows 8, on the other hand, has been around for more than a year, but it still fails to attract more users. At this point, Microsoft’s first modern operating system accounts for 7.53 percent of the users worldwide, which is actually below September 2013 figures when it reached 8.02 percent.

This means that Windows XP still has four times more users than Windows 8, even though Microsoft is fighting so much to show that this aging platform is no longer secure.

Windows XP will official go dark on April 8, 2014, so you still have around six months to decide your next destination.
