With the release of Rollup 1.0 Microsoft has introduced a series of Windows Vistas components to the Windows XP Embedded Service Pack 2 operating system. Users will be able to test and evaluate IE7, Windows Media Player 11 and other additional features that Microsoft has backported from Windows Vista to Windows XP Embedded SP2. Weighing in at 149.1 MB UpdateRollup1_0XPe.iso will also resolve some of the most common issues with Windows XP Embedded SP2 Feature Pack 2007.

"Update Rollup 1.0 for Windows XP Embedded enables OEM customers to use some of the latest Windows Vista components on the Windows XP Embedded platform, including Internet Explorer 7, Windows Media Player 11, User Mode Driver Framework, Remote Desktop Connection 6, and .NET Framework 3.0. It also includes hotfixes for Windows XP Embedded SP2 Feature Pack 2007. The Update Rollup 1.0 for Windows XP Embedded is not a stand alone product; it requires the developer to have Windows Embedded Studio tool suite installed," Microsoft revealed on the description of the downloads.

Microsoft has been developing Windows XP Embedded "Feature Preview 2008" on the heels of Feature Pack 2007, and the company made available the first beta release on February 20, 2007. Additionally Microsoft confirmed that Windows XP Embedded SP2 Rollup 1.0 is the final version of the Feature Preview 2008 beta. March 23, 2007 was the date when Microsoft closed all feedback and started getting ready for the final product.

The Windows XP Embedded team revealed that it was happy with the level of interest generated by the "Feature Preview 2008" Community Technology Preview made available in February 2007. As this is a rollup, users need to already have deployed Windows XP Embedded SP2 before attempting to deploy the feature pack.
