If at just a couple of weeks short of the first anniversary since Windows Vista hit the shelves you are still looking for reasons to upgrade to the latest Windows client, then Biplab Paul, Partner Technical Consultant with Microsoft India, has an impressive, and exhaustive list of features that are bound to tilt the balance in Vista's favor. Throwing
Windows Vista in the same arena as Windows 9x/Me, Windows NT Server, Windows 2000 Professional and Windows XP Professional, in terms of a feature comparison, only serves to bring the latest iteration of Microsoft's proprietary platform on top of its predecessors.

For your viewing pleasure, I have included at the bottom of this article the complete Windows Vista vs. Windows 9x/Me, NT Server, 2000 and XP feature comparison. Well, they say that a picture is worth a thousand words, and while I am sure that the graphic well exceeds this number it is an interesting read. Even if you will only glance over the features. But of course that Vista will have no problems taking on Windows 9x, ME, NT Server and 2000. There is little argument that the latest Windows client is in a different class altogether than all of XP's predecessors.

The real issue is of course with Windows XP. When it comes down to Windows XP vs. Windows Vista, the latter just seems to fall short of representing a real evolution. At least this is the general perception. And Microsoft can enumerate all the features, examples of functionality and capabilities in Vista while pointing out what XP lacks, in 2007 consumer demand for XP has continued to be strong despite the advent of Windows Vista. It will be interesting to see the evolution of the two operating systems once Windows XP Service Pack 3 and Windows Vista SP1 hit early in 2008.

"The combined features of Windows Vista create the best choice for a mainstream operating system for businesses of all sizes. Whether a corporation deploys Windows Vista on a single computer or through a worldwide network, Windows Vista increases your computing power while lowering the total cost of desktop ownership", Biplab explained.

Our sister branch was the test site for our vista migration, 2 weeks after they completed they went back to install XP. Some of the reasons, incompatible with most software already purchased. To many system crashes. Horrible network performance. Security concerns. Activation problems with volume licensing staying active once activated. System requirements demand better hardware dramatically increasing overall desktop cost. Network reliability when sending large files over network. Our corporations has decided to wait for the next OS
