Windows Vista's Price Will Encourage the Migration Towards Linux, Novell Thinks

- Novell Linux Desktop 9

By: Marius Nestor, Linux Editor

Novell thinks that Windows Vista’s price could represent an opportunity for
Linux.

Jack Messman, CEO Novell, said during Novell’s Brain Share, which took place in Barcelona, Spain, that switching from Windows XP to Windows Vista will be more expensive than switching from Windows XP to Linux.

In Jack Messman’s vision, Linux, and especially Novell, should take advantage fo this opportunity and Novell’s CEO also believes that Novell Linux Desktop 9 is the ideal distribution, especially for the business type users.

The issue concerning the costs for maintaining and implementing an OS has long been debated by professionals and it represents one of the most frequent criticisms brought to Microsoft’s OS.

So far, Microsoft hasn’t published any details about the price scheme it plans for Windows Vista, but ever since the Redmond company announced the hardware requirements, many experts have started to link the fee for a license with the amounts of money that will be invested in a PC that would allow you to run the OS.

Windows Vista's Price Will Encourage the Migration Towards Linux, Novell Thinks - USER OPINIONS

I do agree with the Ideals about the Microsoft Vista being more unbelievably expensive. I dont belive just cause the price alone will discourage ones thoughts of changing to Linux.

As a gammer Linux systems (linux boxes) are a great platform for servers and websites. Gammers are looking for the cutting edge performance and new technology to advance thier game play and will purchace the new Vista to attempt to get that edge that they are looking for and not revert thier attention to another type of Os.

Only one thing I would dispise is the fact that Microsoft will not allow mutipule installs on one machine and would have to purchase another liscence to validate the opperating system; if you wanted you update the motherboard or other componets. As I upgrade my componets on a regular basis it would become a on-going occourance and a empty pocket book.
