Microsoft is trying high and mighty to generalize the concept that Windows Vista certification is the key to the operating system delivering the best possible user experience. This is why the company has debuted a collection of Certified for Windows Vista demo videos. The Soapbox video fragment embedded at the bottom of this article, courtesy of Ben Reed, Microsoft Product Manager, is only the second installment in the company's quest to demonstrate the capabilities of certified for Windows Vista products.

"The video I've posted shows how easy it is to set up and configure a wireless network using the D-Link DIR 655 using the Windows Connect Now wizard. We then also showed how to use a USB Flash drive (we used the Kingston Data Traveler II) to copy the network profile and configure another device. Both of these products have earned the Works with Windows Vista logo," Reed commented.

"Have confidence that Certified for Windows Vista products will provide superior experiences with your software, photos, music, videos and online communications on PC's running the Windows Vista operating system. That's because only Certified for Windows Vista software and devices have undergone Microsoft compatibility tests for ease-of-use, better performance and enhanced security. Certified for Windows Vista products make activities like enjoying photos and music, setting up wireless networks, connecting with friends and completing business tasks faster, easier and more secure," Microsoft itself advises customers.

Still, Microsoft's initiative with the Windows Vista certified logo program has the potential to ostracize software and hardware products that fail to present certification to consumers. As Vista will continuously erode XP's market share, replacing it as the most popular operating system worldwide, consumers will be educated to inherently look for certification and overpass other products. Microsoft's guarantee of a top Vista experience comes only in the context of a strong partner ecosystem with consistent support for Vista.
