After being unveiled in the United States, Latin America and Japan, at the debut of the year, WindowsVista Ultimate (PRODUCT) RED now comes to Europe. The RED version of Windows Vista Ultimate is a relabeling and restyling of the high-end edition of Microsoft's latest operating system under the RED brand umbrella. Through RED, Microsoft and Dell have joined other companies including, Emporio Armani, Motorola and Apple, participating
in the initiative put together by Bono and Bobby Shriver, Chairman of DATA.
By buying a Dell computer with Windows Vista Ultimate version RED preloaded on it consumers can effectively contribute with six months worth of antiretroviral (ARV) treatment for an AIDS patient in Africa. Now Dell will also be offering the RED machines on three countries on the European market, namely the United Kingdom, France and Germany. The RED options available are: XPS One (PRODUCT) RED, XPS M1330 (PRODUCT) RED and XPS M1530 (PRODUCT) RED, all featuring Vista Ultimate RED.
"It's important to underscore the fact that (RED) is not a charity, but rather a business model -- and one that works. $50-$80 of your purchase, depending on the model you choose, is contributed to the Global Fund. $80 is enough to provide more than 6 months of antiretroviral (ARV) medication for someone living with AIDS in Africa. You'll notice that we’re offering our best product -- Windows Vista Ultimate -- in our alliance with (RED). Customers running Windows Vista Ultimate (PRODUCT) RED will benefit from the most complete version of Windows Vista available," stated
Nick White, Windows Vista Product Manager back in January 2008.
On top of being the high-end edition of Windows Vista, the Ultimate SKU has been updated with additional content designed to reflect the RED brand. End users will be getting the Vista Ultimate bits, but also six new wallpapers, two Windows Sidebar Gadgets, one screensaver and one DreamScene movie.
