There are some Windows Vista users looking to the first service pack for the operating system as nothing short of a breath of fresh air. In some cases, Vista has underperformed dramatically, in comparison to the expectations Microsoft has set up for it, and this is the reason why SP1 carries high hopes with it. As of the past week, users are able to get a taste of Vista SP1 by downloading and installing a near-final version of the service pack on their operating system. Windows Vista SP1 RC1 has been offered to all Vista users, but it is still a beta build designed for testing. However,
what do you do when, after you install Vista SP1 RC1, problems continue to erode your copy of the platform?
Well, The Reliability and Performance Monitor integrated in Vista might just be the tool to provide an answer.

"Generate a report detailing the status of local hardware resources, system response times, and processes on the local computer along with system information and configuration data. This report includes suggestions for ways to maximize performance and streamline system operation. Membership in the local Administrators group, or equivalent, is the minimum required to run this Data Collector Set", reads the description of the tool.

A System Health Report is usually generated via the Performance and Reliability Monitor in less than 100 seconds. It will provide a clear view of the diagnostics of your Vista SP1 RC1 system, emphasizing the errors it comes across. Additionally, it will also highlight issues such as low disk space, as it analyzes the attributes of the operating system, but also the hard disks, the security solutions deployed, the system services and the drivers. Users will also be able to assess the performance of Vista SP1 RC1 at any given time, in the context of specific processes being performed. In order to access the tool, all you have to do is right-click Computer, select Properties, then Windows Experience Index, and then under the Task panel on the left hand side Advanced Tools, followed by the Generate a System Health Report option at the bottom.

"In Windows Vista, users can have an extensive System Health Report generated for them in helping troubleshoot performance and reliability issues on their PC or to see how healthy their PC is in general. For the average user, this probably won't mean anything (...)", revealed Microsoft's Brandon LeBlanc. "In generating the System Health Report, a series of basic system and performance checks are completed. You can also check out your Software and Hardware configurations as well. The information in these tests is pretty detailed. (...) You have the option to save your report as an HTML document if you would like."
