Windows Vista, the Microsoft Office 2007 System and Internet Explorer 7 are all flawed by security vulnerabilities. Still, the list of software from the Redmond company impacted by security flaws is more extensive than the three products enumerated above. On August 9, Microsoft's Bulletin Release Advance Notification describing the security updates scheduled for August 14 reference all supported Windows operating systems, including Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Server 2003 and Windows Vista, Internet Explorer 5, 6 and 7, the Microsoft XML Core Services, Office 2000, Office XP, Office 2003 Office 2004 for Mac and Office 2007, Microsoft Visual Basic, Windows Media Player 10 and 11, Virtual PC 2004 and Virtual Server 2005 Enterprise Edition.

"Six Microsoft Security Bulletins affecting Microsoft Windows with a Maximum Severity rating of Critical. One Microsoft Security Bulletins affecting Microsoft Office with a Maximum Severity rating of Critical. One Microsoft Security Bulletin affecting Microsoft Office and Microsoft Windows a Maximum Severity rating of Critical. One Microsoft Security Bulletin affecting Microsoft Virtual PC and Microsoft Virtual Server with a Maximum Severity rating of Important," revealed Christopher Budd, Security Program Manager, adding that "all updates will require a restart and will be detectable using the Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer and the Enterprise Scan Tool."

Out of the nine security bulletins panned for August 14, no less than six, have been labeled with a maximum severity rating of Critical, due to the fact that in the eventuality of a successful exploit they could allow for remote arbitrary code execution. The critical security updates will impact IE, the Windows platform, Visual Basic and Office for Mac. The patches considered important affect various Windows operating systems, Windows Vista and Virtual PC and Virtual Server.

"We are also planning to release an update to the Microsoft Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool. Finally, we are planning to release four high-priority non-security updates on Microsoft Update and two on Windows Update. Remember that this information is to help with your advance planning for the Tuesday release: this information can change between now and the release on Tuesday. If things do change or we have new information about the release," Budd added.
