Windows Vista's rich variety of flavors is designed to satisfy different users' needs, from consumers in developing markets to home users and corporate customers. But even among a general consumer segment, there are smaller divisions focused on specific tasks and processes, especially in business environments. This is why, in addition to tailoring Windows Vista Enterprise on corporate users, Microsoft offers a total of five optimized desktop scenarios which adapt the operating system to specific business needs.

"These are all significant issues many of you are facing today, so we've created five Windows Optimized Desktop Scenarios that outline solutions for different types of customers. It's important to realize that no "one size" desktop fits every user's needs. These scenarios highlight how you can use OS, application and user state virtualization to deliver very flexible yet manageable environments for your users," explained Shanen Boettcher, General Manager of Windows Product Management for the enterprise.

The Windows Desktop scenarios outlined by the Redmond company are designed to deliver an equilibrium between flexibility and the level of centralized control applied to each machine in a corporate IT infrastructure. The emphasis is, of course, placed on flexibility. Microsoft demonstrates that a combination of Windows Vista Enterprise, Windows Server 2008 and Microsoft Desktop Optimization Pack can help organizations meet the needs of task oriented workers, as well as of office workers, and the personal dealing with mobile knowledge, remote access, and offshore scenarios which can be accessed here.

"By examining the different user scenarios within your organization, and taking advantage of technologies such as BitLocker Drive Encryption, Folder Redirection, Offline Files, Microsoft Application Virtualization and Windows Vista Enterprise Centralized Desktop (VECD), you can find the right balance of end-user flexibility and IT management and control. I encourage you to look at these technologies within the context of the Windows Optimized Desktop Scenarios and explore how they can help your organization focus on what's most important for the business, while nurturing a more flexible and productive IT environment," Boettcher added.
