Applications that have earned the "Certified for Windows Vista" or the "Works with Windows Vista" logos have been centralized by Microsoft on a common list made available to the public as of today, February 22, 2007. All the applications in Microsoft's list have been tested for full compatibility with Windows Vista and are supported on the operating system by the Redmond Company's independent software vendors.

There are over 800 applications listed by Microsoft as compatible with Windows Vista, but no less than 100 are products developed by the Redmond Company. In this context, Microsoft is adding its own consistent contribution to the list.

"There are many applications that are compatible and work well with Windows Vista but that are not listed in this article. This is because such applications have not yet gone through the Windows Vista logo program or are still going though this program. New applications are continually being added to the program. For the most up-to-date information about this program, run the Microsoft Application Compatibility Toolkit 5.0 or visit the Windows Marketplace Web site. You can also download the Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor to check individual computers," Microsoft informed.

The Redmond Company revealed that the list contains all Windows Vista supported applications as of noon on February 19, 2007, and that updates will be introduced on a weekly basis. According to Microsoft, the "Certified for Windows Vista" logo designates the Vista compatible applications that have been tested for: reliability, security, compatibility with the operating system and installation and removal.

"The "Works with Windows Vista" logo is a compatibility designation that is designed to encourage Windows Vista compatibility for the current generation of Windows-based applications. To receive this designation, software companies test their applications to make sure that the applications meet the program's guidelines," Microsoft added.
