Windows Vista Broken Photo Import

SHARE:

Adjust text size:

Well let's just say that Windows Vista Photo Import has a few surprises in store. The photo import feature in Vista is the focus of negative feedback. And it should be as it is a step down
from Windows XP. Microsoft took the flexibility out of the Pictures and Videos Import when it transitioned the Wizard to Windows Vista from XP. This example of backpedaling didn't fell well with Vista users.

It is possible that this issue will be fixed prior to the RTM build of Windows Vista. Microsoft's self imposed deadline for the finalization of a release to manufacturing version is October 25.

While Windows XP delivered not only the possibility of previewing the photos or videos stored on an attached device, but also to manage, select and download the items individually by navigating through the wizard, Vista has more of a blunt approach. With little user interaction. All the contents on the connected device are downloaded simultaneously into a directory created ad-hoc. The auto-naming and tagging options introduced with vista simply don't make up for the reduced flexibility of the Import Wizard. Fortunately manual download is a viable alternative.

Ok, I've found a halfway decent solution, unfortunately it involves installling ANOTHER microcrap product - Windows Live Photo Gallery.
Just install it (and not all the other crap they try to get you to install at the same time). Then use it as you Import Wizard. When it pops up you can choose to select what photos you want to import, and it kind of organizes them.
So you can finally PICK THE PHOTOS YOU WANT!!!
yeah. :)
I still wish I could just use the regular old XP way. :(
